Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
